Women in Upper Canada

Did not own property Couldn’t vote Did all work in house No outside jobs Goal was for a woman to marry women were defined by their husbands Love was not as necessary for marriage Childbirth was hazardous Expected to have a lot of children Originally defined by social class however because people of all classes worked side by side, social classes began to break down

 Women Today

Woman can own as much as they can afford Woman have the vote Expectations that men will help with housework Many women have outside jobs Love is necessarily tied to marriage Childbirth somewhat hazardous Women defined by looks, their own personal money, work, education Woman can control the size of family We still have social class but to a lesser extent because of the breakdown of social class in Upper Canada.
